R & D Lab Technician

Downer's Grove, IL

The Lab R&D Technician will be responsible for supporting the R&D team by preparing and creating samples to aid in product development and quality assurance. They will also maintain the organization of the lab and its inventory.  This role is essential in maintaining high standards for sample preparation and ensuring accurate, consistent output. The technician will work closely with team members to follow established protocols, maintain a clean and organized work area, and ensure the quality of samples produced.

Location: On-site at Downer's Grove, IL

Pay: $19-27/hr 

Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare, label, and create product samples in adherence to lab protocols and project specifications.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to ensure the accuracy and integrity of samples.
  • Accurately measure and record data and maintain sample logs to ensure traceability and quality standards.  Measure pH, brix and other basic testing on product samples.
  • Perform basic lab maintenance tasks, including cleaning equipment and work areas, managing supplies, and ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
  • Manage raw materials inventory, sample inventory and supplies to create a well-organized lab.
  • Submit samples to the lab for testing, as required.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to meet deadlines and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Report any issues or inconsistencies in samples or processes to the R&D Manager.
  • Ship samples outbound to key stakeholders; receive and catalog sample inventories. 

Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related area) preferred, not required.
  • Prior lab experience in sample preparation, quality control, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic lab techniques and equipment use.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise protocols.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and sample tracking.
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform repetitive tasks with precision.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
